It is possible for the player to crouch directly in front of the Scuttlebug. Implying that they're completely blind, and rely on sound or vibrations.
The Scuttlebug is treated more like a destroyable object than an actual creature. Looking at it shows the "breakable" icon and the Vacuum can destroy it.
