Quill Rifle

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Quill Rifle is a weapon in Abiotic Factor. It is a fully-automatic weapon, similar in firing behavior to a Montese SMG, Grinder, or Patois Rifle, with noticeable recoil and crosshair rise. The quill ammo has a homing effect, causing its trajectory to curve towards the center-of-mass of the target nearest the crosshairs. This homing effect is reasonable, but has limits, and also tends to make shots on weakpoints more difficult to land.

The quills deal 35 sharp damage on impact, and has a chance to apply an acid burn to the target, dealing acid damage over time.[1]

The Seeker Quill ammo can often be retrieved after firing, both from surfaces and from corpses, though some quills break and vanish on impact instead. Chopping up a corpse will drop any bolts that are stuck to it, along with the corpse's normal butchering loot. Projectile Pickup, gained at the fifth level of the Throwing skill, will also retrieve the quills automatically.

Despite being described as a rifle, the Quill Rifle can be used alongside a shield.

Trivia

  • The weapon firing homing projectiles, being organic in nature and being a stolen arm of a common enemy is possibly a reference to the Hivehand weapon from Half-Life, a game series that Abiotic Factor draws inspiration from.

  1. While acid burn is documented as 10 damage every half second for 2 seconds, the burn from the Quill Rifle appears to only be a single tick of 10 damage instead, with that damage applied equally to all body parts on the target.
