Players can fish in almost any body of water in Abiotic Factor.

Fishing is a gameplay mechanic and minigame added in the "Crush Depth" 0.9.0 Update in Abiotic Factor. It allows the player to catch various fish in most locations where water is present.

Requirements

Fishing requires a Fishing Rod. Different types of fish can be caught depending on the bait used.

Procedure

To start, the player must cast the line into a body of water. Eventually, a silhouette of a fish will appear around the bobber and soon bite onto the hook. Once it does, the player must press the movement buttons in the opposite direction of the fish's movement to tire it out. Once it stops moving, the player can reel it in.

To add bait, press the "Reload" key (the "R" key by default) and hover over the desired bait on the selection wheel before releasing the "Reload" key.

Fishing can result in catching a fish or a junk item, such as Bio Scrap. Without any other factors at play, the base chances seem to be 1/3 (~33%) fish and 2/3 (~66%) junk.

Notes

  • Increasing the Fishing Skill lessens the damage to the Fishing Rod during the pulling phase.
    • At level 3, the player can see "fishing hotspots" that resemble bubbles coming out of the water. Fishing in that spot will yield better chances of catching a fish.
    • At level 5, the Tacklebox is unlocked. When sat on, it provides the Tacklebox buff, which makes fish tire out faster.
    • At level 10, the Lucky Fishing Hat and Mud Waders are unlocked. While worn, the Lucky Fishing Hat increases Fishing XP gain and the chance of catching a rare fish. The Mud Waders, on the other hand, make it so that only junk is caught when fishing.
  • Catching a fish unlocks bait for that specific type of fish, increasing the chance of catching one instead of junk.
  • Eating Roasted Nori Snack boosts Fishing XP.
  • Wearing the Night Helmet increases the chance of catching an Inkfish.
  • Every type of fish has a rare variant that produces more resources when butchered. Using bait increases the chance of a rare fish.
