Makeshift NVGs can only be obtained through crafting.

Uses

Unlike flashlights or other conventional light sources, Makeshift NVGs brightens the entire screen, giving a complete field of view and brightening objects at a much greater distance, at the cost of having a green filter and imitation scan lines. Like the Makeshift Headlamp, it must be unequipped and charged periodically.

Trivia

The audible whining noise suggests this is a first-generation Night-vision device. The whirr is generated by a high-voltage transformer that supplies power to a photocathode.
