Iodine Tablets
Iodine Tablets is a consumable item in Abiotic Factor. When used, it instantly removes 10 points of radiation from the player character and reduces further radiation absorbed by 50% for 15 minutes.
Sources
Iodine Tablets are commonly found inside Medkits. The first Portal World to feature respawning Medkits is Rise.
Notes
The Radiation Tingle debuff, the first sign of radiation build-up on the player, occurs at 6 rads absorbed, while Iodine Tablets can remove 10. As such, consuming Iodine Tablets as soon as the Radiation Tingle debuff appears may be inefficient. However, as the next debuff, Radiation Sickness, does not appear until 35 rads, timing the consumption of Iodine Tablets to maximize rads removed can be tricky without a handheld Geiger Counter on hand. Note that the trinket version, the Geiger Counter Keychain, is not capable of displaying the player's accumulated rads, only the current environmental rad rate, and thus does not help with this timing.
Pentetic Acid Syringes and Green Fish Livers both have identical effect to Iodine Tablets. Comparing the three:
- Iodine Tablets have the highest stack size, at 5, and are shelf-stable, but are typically only found in limited quantities in the moderately uncommon Medkits.
- Pentetic Acid Syringes are directly craftable, though First Aid 4 is required to learn the recipe. Like Iodine Tablets, they are shelf-stable, but only stacks to 3 rather than 5.
- Green Fish Livers can be acquired easily by catching and butchering Radfish, and provide a minor amount of food when consumed as well. However, they have a stack size of 4 rather than 5, have a spoil timer, and require fishing in areas that are radioactive.
R.A.I.N. Shower is an alternative option for reducing radiation. Though not conveniently usable in the field, it removes all radiation from the player, with the only resources consumed being water and power. It does not provide the Rad Resistant buff, however.
