Yeti

The Yeti is a hostile entity that roams the area surrounding Voussoir.

Appearance

The Yeti makes for a daunting sight to behold, being such an enormous beast; in terms of height, the player's head reaches the monster's approximate waistline. It's hunched, muscular form bears indication of simian physiology, besides some stark evolutionary differences: it's claws and teeth. The Yeti has elongated, conical claws on it's fingers. It almost completely lacks discernable feet (as it's legs ends in stumps,) and it's toes and footpads are coated with a dark bony growth. The lips of its mouth are pulled back in an open-face gape, revealing jagged rows of teeth. Two tusks curve outward from the beasts lower jaw, one of shorter length than the other. Their eyes are completely white, but are functional enough to spot enemies.

Lore

GATE Compendium Entry

IS-0134 requires standard megaspecimen containment, including extensive material hardening, structural reinforcement and impact bracing. Overhead clearance of a minimum 5m is also required, due to the subject's athletic proclivities. Once immured, however, IS-0134's reclusive instincts lead it to be relatively docile unless disturbed. In terms of habitat, IS-0134 requires a temperature-controlled environment, maintained at less than -2 degrees Celsius. Extremely susceptible to high temperatures, the subject must be kept away from any and all naked flames, given the exceptionally flammable quality of its fur.

Gameplay

Behavior

The Yeti is a hostile creature that can be found in one of two places in Voussior. It will be either at the base of a sky tram support beam in the gorge, or within a cave past the tram station, at the lowermost end of Voussoir. It is hostile to all entities, Order soldiers, the player and Deployable Objects placed by the player.

  • When outside, it remains in one position, only moving when spotting the player or other enemy. If there is nothing left to attack, it will calmly return to this position.
  • When within the cave, it simply roams back and forth, wandering near the exit portal. Meanwhile, A Mountaineer and Close-Quarters Combatant can be found stationed at the tram beam at the Yeti's outside location.

Despite it's hulking appearance, the Yeti is a deceptively agile creature. When engaged in combat, the Yeti can leap long distances with surprising velocity, quickly closing in on unfortunate prey. The Yeti fears no living thing, but being set on fire briefly spurs the beast into a panic. In this state, it will scream and desperately attempt to extinguish itself.

Combat Tips

The Yeti proves itself to be a very tough boss, capable of out-manuvering its targets and striking with explosive ferocity. Players will need to muster all their wits and courage to tackle this impressive foe.

  • The Yeti is extremely vulnerable to fire-based weapons, especially when ignited. To this end, the Welding Spear and Thermite Molotov are both capable of setting the beast aflame.

Notes

  • Outside of the Yeti's cave, a pair of Mountaineers can be found standing at its entrance. As players approach this area from afar, gunshots and explosions can be heard, giving the impression that the soldiers are engaged in combat with the monster.
    • However, this is an illusion, as the soldiers aren't actually attacking the monster. While in its cave, the Yeti does not wander close enough to cause the soldiers to cause any conflict. Moreover, when the Yeti spawns outside of the cave, the soldiers will still be at the entrance, shooting and throwing grenades at nothing.

Trivia

  • The Yeti uses down-pitched monkey sounds for its vocals.
  • The Yeti shares some attack patterns and animations with the Tarasque. This includes animations when at low health, where both beasts will begin to hold their chests and slow down in movement speed. The main difference is that the Yeti lacks the DBNO phase.
    • It closely resembles the behavior of the invisible entities that inhabit The Pool Room. They are stationary unless approached or attacked, and they appear to return to their starting position after attacking the player once.
