Player characters in Abiotic Factor have a variety of Skills levels. The player skills can be found in the My Stats tab of the player menu (shortcut key K). The player can level up their skills by acquiring XP (experience points) when doing actions specific for each skill.

XP gain can be increased or decreased through certain effects, such as the Wrinkly Brainmeat Trait. XP gain bonuses stack with each other (ex. if you have two 20% bonuses and gain 1XP, the first buff will apply then the second buff will apply to the new value for 1.44XP total (1*1.2*1.2)).

They are grouped in three categories: Fitness, Combat, and Crafting. These categories appear to be only visual and don't affect the skill themselves.

All skills have discrete levels, which are completed once a certain XP requirement is met. The requirements change on each level, but are the same for all skills.

XP requirements for each Skill level
Level Required XP
1 200
2 500
3 940

11 18242
12 23307
13 29101

15 43310

The Skills screen uses pill-shaped boxes with different colors indicating each state:

  • Blue-filled levels indicate they are reached
  • Yellow-filled levels are in progress, but not reached yet
  • Black levels are not reached nor in progress

When reaching some skill levels, the player learns new abilities and passive effects. These levels are identified by an icon and a tooltip when hovered by the mouse.

The maximum level has changed over the course of early access. The max level was 12 in 0.8.0 (early access launch), which was raised to 15 in 0.9.0 (Crush Depth). A bug allows for guest players on multiplayer servers to continue earning XP beyond the intended maximum, up to 20.
