Canaan
Canaan is one of several Portal Worlds the player can discover. The portal to Canaan is located within the Particle Labs area of Cascade Laboratories, surrounded by odd-looking trees with Snag Vine.
Description
While data on areas of Anteverse CLXVIII beyond the coastal settlement of Canaan remains limited, several things are now known about the location and its inhabitants.
The remote area is occupied by a small gnostic cult, whose creed holds that material reality was created as a cage for their sublime, immortal souls.
Worshipping a piece of xenotechnology known as the Lodestone, which they believe may be the key to releasing them from their physical bondage, they follow a puritanical regime of self- abasement, regarding all others as tools of 'the enemy', who created their fetters, i.e. matter.
How this group came to settle in this remote region, whether it represents the past, present or future of this or some other Earth entirely, and how they came into possession of an artefact like the Lodestone is unknown.
How to Access
The portal to Canaan is unlocked by repairing the "Flow Control Modules" with a Night Essence and Snag Vine Seed. Once restored, the portal can be activated using a nearby keypad, which requires a Keypad Hacker (Tier 3).
Strategy
Before heading to Canaan, it is recommended to bring either a strong melee Tech Sceptre, Lightning Spear or range weapon, such as thrown explosives. While some of the cultists can be slow-moving and can be kited, they also shrug more damage. Weapons that deal acid damage are highly effective. Electric attacks also stun temporarily. Aim for the head for damage increase. Bring many bandages to handle the many bleeding attacks and severe bleeding attacks.
A good light source is also recommended — while the area isn't entirely dark, its low lighting can make it difficult to see.
Usage of a Repair and Salvage Station is required to finish the portal world. While there is one in the level itself, it may be desirable to bring one of your own, as there is a power outlet in the Swamp that's convinient to use, near the Witches Hut in a small overlook over the rest of Canaan.
Beware that the villagers will attempt to run to a nearby Bell Tower to sound the alarm, spawning more villagers that could easily surround the player if unprepared.
Enemies spawned from the Bell Towers spawn at the blackened doorways of the un-enterable huts throughout the village. There are four enemy types:
- Guard- Fire from long distance or bash up close.
- Woodsman- Charge their enemies and swing a heavy axe causing Severe bleeding.
- Torchbearer- Has an armor-ignoring attack. It's heavily advised to either use ranged attacks or perform hit and run attacks with a longer melee weapons, like spears.
- Farmer- Has a charging attack with a pitchfork, that's easily mistaken for the enemy approaching (walking to) the player which causes the player to be caught and take damage as they're pushed back. This attack also had a small chance for bleeding.
